In 2005 I was diagnosed with a Thyroid disorder and by 2007 my weight had fluctuated to approx 10 st 8llbs. It took some time to recover and I was also diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) later in 2007 as my thyroid levels were considered and tested normal. I ached every day, I didn't sleep properly and was constantly tired. If I trained I ached and if I didn't train I ached so I tried to do at least 3 sessions a week with light weights to keep all of my muscles active. (Sometimes I'd stay in bed for days in pain other days I'd feel more normal)
I won't bore you with the detail but basically one day when my GP tried to keep upping the dose of my sleeping pills (which were also classed as an antidepressant) I told me I had issues with wanting to go to the 'gym' and 'exercising' and that I should get counselling. This was a GP who was totally over weight and is stomach would be perched on his desk!!!!
From that moment I decided I would sort out my own body! I moved out of the city into a more quiet area. I started walking at 5am every morning when I couldn't sleep' this then turned into 10 mins jogging and within 3 months I built this up to 45mins running each day and body exercises outside my apartment when I got home.
What did I change?
I stopped eating Rice, Pasta, Bread, Potatoes. ( I didn't eat sweet or crisps or biscuits anyway)
I changed my diet to higher protein, with fruit and vegetables as my carbohydrate source and included fats such as cream, nuts, olive oil, butter etc. My main carb meal everyday is porridge oats either cooked with water or cold with natural yogurt.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu got me into shape even more when I started in late 2009. I was 60 kg by May 2010. Once I started adding Muay Thai once per week, more weight came off, then a boxing pads/bag class session started to make more of a difference. Since Thailand, training hard for 7 weeks full time last year, I basically have been training for boxing matches right up until October 2012.
1.Dont be scared to lift heavy weights!
2.Brazilian Jiu Jitsu does wonders for your core and fitness on a whole new level and is great for self defence!
3. Boxing and Muay Thai training can be done for fun! you dont have to fight but you can get fit and look fit!
4 if you are good with your diet you will feel and look even better!
